Deed Theft Sentencing in Schenectady County Court

A Cobleskill man, David White, shared his emotional story in court as a victim of deed theft that cost him his home.

Joseph Goodnough was sentenced in Schenectady County Court in front of Judge Matthew Sypniewski after pleading guilty to grand larceny.

Goodnough tricked David White into signing over his Cobleskill house, with surveillance video showing them stopping at a Stewart’s in Schenectady to sign the documents two years ago.

“A predator who exploited my trust and deceived me into signing over my family home, a place filled with generations of memories and deep personal meaning,” said White. “Goodnough never paid me a single cent for the property. What he took from me was far more than a house. He stole my stability, my dignity, and the sense of both safety and self-worth.”

As noted, “Unfortunately bad people do bad things to good people.”
