Restoring Vision with Camera Glasses and Implants

Researchers have successfully restored vision to patients with Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) in a clinical trial using a retinal implant paired with specialty camera glasses.

The trial, led by a team of international researchers, including a biomedical engineer inspired by his photographer grandfather's vision loss, has shown promising results. The team from Science Corporation and Stanford University developed an artificial retina and a pair of camera glasses that improved vision enough to read again in 27 out of 32 patients.

The research has given patients the ability to read using a retinal implant and a pair of specially designed camera glasses.

Author's summary: Camera glasses and implants restore vision in AMD patients.
