A cargo jet operated by ACT Airlines for Emirates SkyCargo plunged into the sea during landing at Hong Kong International Airport early Monday.
A Boeing 747 cargo plane flying from Dubai to Hong Kong veered off the north runway and ended up partially submerged in the sea around 3:50 a.m.
The aircraft reportedly broke apart on impact. All four crew members were safely rescued, airport authorities confirmed.
However, two people on the ground—believed to have been in a vehicle struck by the plane—were killed in the incident, according to local reports.
Emirates confirmed the plane carried no cargo and sustained major damage upon landing.
