Houston football has not participated in a bowl game in three years.
Former head coach Dana Holgorsen was relieved of his duties in November 2023, after a disappointing season where the Cougars finished 4-8, missing a bowl appearance for the first time since 2019.
Houston sought a new leader to transform the team from a conference competitor to a contender, leading them to Tulane's coach Willie Fritz.
Willie Fritz had led the Green Wave to 12-2 and 11-3 seasons in 2022 and 2023, respectively, after a 2-10 finish in 2021.
The Cougars aim to return to bowl eligibility under Fritz's guidance.
