President Donald Trump commuted the sentence of former US Rep. George Santos, who pleaded guilty to fraud and identity theft charges.
Santos, a New York Republican, was sentenced in April to over seven years in federal prison after admitting to deceiving donors and stealing the identities of 11 people, including his own family members.
According to Joseph Murray, one of Santos' lawyers, the former lawmaker was released from the Federal Correctional Institution in Fairton, New Jersey, around 11 p.m. and was greeted by his family.
