A Columbus family continues to honor their late son's memory through a charitable race that supports local causes, more than three years after his passing.
Sims Vickers, 14, took his own life in March 2022. His parents and church are hosting the third annual Sims Vickers Memorial Let It Shine 5K in Columbus.
In previous years, the race has raised $25,000 overall for local nonprofits. This year's event will benefit the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown, the only NICU in the region.
He loved to share Jesus' love with other people. He just had a spirit of love and joy inside of him.
Sims spent three months at the Piedmont NICU as an infant. The family's efforts aim to make a lasting impact in their community.
