CTA Violent Crime Nears Decade High
Violent crime on the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) has risen to its second-highest level in the past decade, with 2,893 crimes reported at CTA stations and platforms between August and July.
The arrest rate for these crimes has dropped, with fewer than 1-in-5 violent CTA crimes leading to an arrest, compared to a little over 1-in-4 for all transit crimes.
Federal funding for the CTA is in jeopardy due to the increase in violent crime, with authorities threatening to cut funding unless public safety improves.
