Madlanga Commission Adjourns to Rule on In-Camera Application

The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry has adjourned to consider an application for closed-door testimony as it investigates corruption, political interference, and cartel links within the SAPS.

The commission, which resumed proceedings after a 12-day break, heard arguments from Chief Evidence Leader Advocate Matthew Chaskalson, who sought to have the next witness testify in private due to the sensitivity of the information.

Advocate Matthew Chaskalson submitted an application seeking to have testimony heard away from the public and the media.

However, media lawyer Charles Du Plessis, representing News24 and Daily Maverick, opposed the application and has been given a deadline to submit written arguments.

Author's summary: Madlanga Commission debates closed-door testimony.
