Miners prosper as FTSE 100 makes steady progress, with gold miners Fresnillo and Endeavour Mining leaping 9.1% and 11% respectively.
The FTSE 100 recouped some of Friday’s losses, closing up 15.40 points at 9,442.87, while the FTSE 250 ended 262.48 points higher at 22,064.32.
In European equities, the CAC 40 in Paris closed up 0.2%, and the DAX 40 in Frankfurt ended up 0.6%.
Gains were driven by a decrease in rhetoric from President Donald Trump in the US-China trade spat, causing gold to soar.
